The Universal Genève Polerouter is one of the most important designs in 20th-century watchmaking. Created by Gérald Genta when he was just 24 years old, the model became one of Universal Genève’s great icons and a fundamental piece for understanding the evolution of watch design in the mid-1950s.
This example corresponds to the Polerouter De Luxe version, reference 10357/3, crafted in solid 18-karat rose gold. However, what truly makes this unit special is the combination of the rose gold case with its spectacular black dial, a configuration much less common than the usual gold-toned dials or those matching the case.
The black dial features a glossy finish, accompanied by the characteristic rose gold inner tension ring, applied indices, and matching Dauphine hands. The contrast between the deep black of the dial and the warmth of the rose gold creates an aesthetic that is especially elegant and, at the same time, very different from most Polerouters found on the market.
Inside, we find one of the great stars of this piece: the Universal Genève caliber 215 Microtor, one of the manufacture's first micro-rotor automatic movements. Its reduced thickness allowed Universal Genève to create particularly elegant and slim watches, making the caliber 215 a fundamental part of the Polerouter's history.
This example is in spectacular condition, something especially important for a piece from this era. The combination of its 18k rose gold case, its characteristic Bombé lugs, the black dial, and the Microtor movement make it one of those configurations that very rarely appear on the market.
